Titanfall, a popular console first-person shooter and one of the first major games released for the Xbox One, is coming to mobile – well, sort of.
Respawn Entertainment and South Korean game publisher Nexon, have forged a partnership to develop games based on the Titanfall universe, with several releases planned over the next few years. The creation of these titles is being handled by Particle City, a mobile developer located in Los Angeles, California and founded by the co-founder and CEO of Respawn, Vince Zampella.
It’s unclear what kind of games Titanfall’s mobile offerings will end up becoming, but it’s likely these upcoming mobile spin-offs won’t be first person shooters like their console counterparts.
“Working closely with our partners at Respawn and Particle City, we intend to build on the original game’s success and introduce millions of mobile gamers to the rich Titanfall universe,” said Nexon president and CEO Owen Mahoney in a statement issued to MobileSyrup.
While the original Titanfall is an Xbox One exclusive, the game’s sequel, Titanfall 2, is expected to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Nexon is also publishing Cliff Bleszinski’s Lawbreakers from his new studio Boss Key Productions. Bleszinksi best known for the creation of the Gears of War franchise.
Particle City’s mobile games are expected to receive worldwide releases for both iOS and Android at some point in 2016.
