Next iPhone’s screen will be thinner by using “in-cell technology”

Apple’s next iPhone is many things already, but most importantly still a rumour. It’s expected that this “new iPhone” will be have a 4-inch display, is thinner, more powerful, have a better camera and more powerful.

Adding to the speculation today is the Wall Street Journal by declaring “people familiar with the matter” believe that Apple’s next generation iPhone “will use a new technology that makes the smartphone’s screen thinner.” How Apple will come to market with a thinner screen is by using “in-cell technology,” this is developed by a company called Japan Display, Sharp, and LG. The display will reportedly be thinner because it “integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer.”

In addition, the report also indicated that the overall thinness will reduce by about half a millimeter, plus will also improve the display resolution of images. The next iPhone will most likely be released in October, but the WSJ says these “people familiar with the situation” are reporting that “LCD makers are finding the manufacturing process challenging and time-consuming as they scramble to achieve high yield rates.” Hopefully that doesn’t translate into quality issues or delays for us consumers.
