Just one day after Microsoft announced it had put an end to its legal battle with Google, the company issued a press release stating that it has reached new a patent licensing agreement with Asus.
As a part of the agreement, Asus will preload Microsoft Office Suite, as well as “other innovative product solutions” on future Android devices it sells. The company joins more than 20 other Android OEMS, including Samsung, LG and Sony, that already bundle Microsoft apps on their devices.
“This agreement delivers significant value for both companies. Beyond ensuring continued improvements to our products, it opens the door to the kind of collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS made possible only through mutual respect and alignment on intellectual property,” said Nick Psyhogeos, president of technology licensing at Microsoft, in a statement issued to MobileSyrup.
According to Engadget, Satya Nadella has been behind the company’s recent move to settle many of its ongoing legal disputes. The CEO reportedly believes it’s better to get his company’s software on as many devices as possible than to wage legal wars with other companies. With Microsoft apparently already making billions of dollars each year from licensing agreements it has in place with Android OEMs, it’s safe to say the strategy is helping them make bank.
