Tesla’s second-gen roadster might finally make its debut

Finally, after nearly a decade of delays, Tesla has set a reveal date for the second iteration of the Tesla Roadster.

The news comes from Tesla’s official Tesla account, which posted a graphic with the date “10.01” and a link to the Roadster’s webpage.

The webpage currently features the same graphic from the social media post, along with a countdown and the vehicle’s name above it.

Now, as Engadget pointed out, Tesla has had a really poor track record of promising to release the Roadster; however, back in August, The Information reported that Tesla would launch the Roadster soon — oddly, with the ability to fly. Still, given Tesla’s recent features, this might not be as impressive as it seems (enter the Cybertruck’s Wade mode).

With all this in mind, I’m holding out until October 10 to have some semblance of excitement about the Roadster. The electric vehicle giant first showed off the Model 3 concept in 2017 and revealed that the Roadster would go from 0-60 mph (0-100km/h) in under two seconds, with more than 600 miles (965 km) of range. Tesla also accepted reservations for the Roadster at US$50,000 (C$69,542.75), but over the years, many people cancelled due to delays and constant promises that were never fulfilled.

This could be another example of a vehicle revealed with a “Coming Soon” promise that never comes true, or it could be like the Cybertruck, where a perfectly good concept gets ruined by trying to be too cool. However, we will have to wait until October 10 to find out.
