Apple has signed a deal with Amazon to bring Apple TV+ to Prime Video.
As announced during the Bloomberg Screentime Conference on Wednesday night, Apple TV+ will arrive as a paid channel add-on for Amazon’s streaming service sometime later this month. It will be priced at $12.99/month, the same cost for a current subscription.
It’s a notable move for Apple, which has generally only offered Apple TV+ on its own sizeable catalogue of devices, as well as video game consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Apple TV+ will join the likes of Paramount+, Crave, AMC+ and many more in the ever-growing list of Prime Video Channels.
During the conference, both Prime Video chief Mike Hopkins and Apple’s senior VP of services Eddy Cue noted the deal is all about scale. In particular, the former executive noted that Prime Video has “hundreds of millions” of users worldwide. While Apple hasn’t divulged any such viewership data for Apple TV+, the service undoubtedly has a much smaller audience than Amazon’s. Therefore, this helps Apple TV+ reach more people.
Prime Video users, meanwhile, will be given direct access to Apple TV+ titles like Severance, Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Slow Horses. Apple TV+ is also the exclusive streaming home of Major League Soccer and select Friday Night Baseball games, including some featuring the Toronto Blue Jays.
We’ll update this story once an exact release for Apple TV+ on Prime Video has been confirmed.
