Vancouver-based national carrier Telus has expanded the scope of its recently announced ‘Peace of Mind’ and ‘Simple Share’ plans with new Canada-U.S. variants.
According to changes listed on the telecom’s website, subscribers can now get a Peace of Mind 10GB Canada-U.S. plan with unlimited data. Like other Telus Peace of Mind plans, it has 10GB of high-speed data, followed by continued use at a reduced speed of 512Kbps.
Alternatively, subscribers can get the 10GB Simple Share version, which provides shareable data with other members of a subscribers’ family instead of unlimited data.
Both versions of the plan cost $95 per month and offer coverage in Canada and the U.S., allowing subscribers to use their phone as they would at home.
It’s worth noting that customers must remain a Canadian resident to use this plan, and are also required to stay on the plan for the duration of their term. Additionally, roaming charges still apply when outside the U.S. and Canada. Finally, the plans don’t include calls to the following area codes: (712) 432, (605) 562, (605) 475, (712) 775, and (559) 726.
Previously, Telus only offered a $15 U.S. calling add-on, which allowed customers to call U.S. numbers from Canada but didn’t allow for the use of phones in the States. The new plans are about $20 more per month than the standard Peace of Mind and Simple Share plans, but the added advantage of U.S. phone use is well worth the additional cost.
Rogers recently launched Canada-U.S. versions of its Infinite plans as well, with 10, 20 and 50GB versions. A Telus spokesperson told MobileSyrup that it currently has no plans to offer higher data buckets on the Canada-U.S. plans.
