A Reddit user named ‘Krizastro’ has recently discovered an Android glitch that shows users their recent SMS conversations.
Whenever a user types ‘the1975..com’ into the Google search bar widget on Android instead of doing a web-search, the phone will show recent text messages through Google.
To activate the bug, users need to make sure there are two periods in that search. It’s hard to pinpoint why this is happening but trying other phrases and number combinations combined with two periods doesn’t activate the glitch.
What makes this glitch even more interesting is how it shows off the recent messages as cards in a sort of Google Search results type of design. It’s unclear why Google can even show texts in Search like this, but I couldn’t find any other way to recreate this.
Using this phrase in a Google Chrome search on Android works as you’d expect with the search results auto-correcting the second period away and showing users regular search results.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Google for more information on what could be causing the glitch.
We’ll update this post if and when we receive a response.
