Tile has announced a new version of its flagship tracking device called Tile Mate.
Tile Mate is 25 percent smaller than its predecessor, features four different ring tones and comes equipped with a pre-drilled hole that makes it perfect for keychains.
The device is thicker than the recently revealed Tile Slim, but still much smaller than the first generation Tile. Pricing comes in at $25 USD (about $33 CAD) per Tile Mate, with a four pack coming in at $70 USD (about $92 CAD). There’s also a combo pack that includes two Tile Mates and two Tile Slims that costs $90 USD.
Similar to previous versions of the tracker, Tile Mate syncs with a mobile app on your phone, allowing you to locate items when they go missing. The device is also not limited to Bluetooth range and utilizes the signal of other Tile devices in the vicinity to track its own location.
While this feature doesn’t always work great with less popular tracking devices, given the fact that there are approximately 6 million Tiles sold in 200 countries around the world, tracking beyond Bluetooth range with Tile is actually very effective.
One of the original Tile’s main drawbacks was the fact that its batteries wasn’t replaceable and only lasted about a year. The company’s ‘reTile’ program, however, solves this problem. With reTile, when a Tile’s battery is depleted, customers can receive a new Tile at roughly 50 percent off the devices original price.
Tile Mate is available right now on Tile’s website.
