Today, a new report suggests Samsung will launch five Galaxy flagship smartphones in 2017, including, at long last, its first foldable device.
The five new smartphones pegged for 2017 are the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 edge, Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy Note 7 edge, and something new called the Galaxy X. The standard Samsung flagships are rumoured to include 2.5K resolution AMOLED displays. As for the mysterious Galaxy X, this is Samsung’s foldable smartphone. It will reportedly feature a 4K display.
While the Galaxy X is probably not the go-to-market name for the new foldable device, earlier rumours pointed towards Samsung working on a 5-inch smartphone with a curved OLED display that transformed into a 7-inch tablet.
Back in In 2011, Samsung demoed a flexible display with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution that was dubbed the “world’s thinnest resolution Flexible AMOLED display,” measuring in at 0.27mm thick.
In addition, Queen’s University recently showed off ReFlex, the world’s first full-colour, high-resolution flexible smartphone.
