The name Kodak is synonymous with cameras and, more recently, digital photo frames, but next month we’ll see an Android smartphone with the Kodak name on it.
Bullitt Group, a company that licenses major brands like Caterpillar for mobile devices, is paying for the rights to use the Kodak name on a new line of Android devices. These devices will be aimed at customers who want “a high end experience” but will also be easy to use and will come pre-loaded with photo capture, management and sharing features (hence the Kodak name) as well as remote management software for family tech support.
“Kodak is one of the world’s most recognizable brands. It is trusted by consumers as a marque of quality and innovation,” says Oliver Schulte, CEO Bullitt Mobile. “We’ve taken that heritage and used it to inspire a range of beautifully designed devices that will let users take great pictures and edit, share, store and print them in an instant.”
The first phone will be unveiled at CES in January but there will be more, including a 4G phone, a tablet, and a connected camera, announced in the second half of 2015.
Kodak itself will also be at CES for the first time in three years. It will have a range of imaging products as well as phone chargers, photo related accessories, and memory cards. The company seems to back on track after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection two years ago as part of a massive restructuring plan.
