Sony wants you to “bring the next Xperia smartphone closer to you,” by playing its Fast Forward Facebook game. While it may sound a little cheesy, it’s drudging up support for a yet-unnamed Xperia device that could be the successor to the slightly underwhelming Xperia S.
We told you a few months ago that the Japan-announced Xperia GX that may or may not be released internationally. But the 4.6-inch 720p LTE-powered device looks to be the right fit for a new era of modern Xperia devices, as the GX is rumoured to have a Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM and a 13MP Exmor R camera.
Whether this contest will actually have an affect on the announcement date — they always could have planned to push up the number — remains to be seen, but it’s an interesting experiment in brand interaction. Lots of people excited for Sony to finally regain a foothold in the smartphone game after a couple disappointing years, and considering the Xperia S was such a great phone with just a few nagging issues, the company has the potential to create a knockout.
