BlackBerry announced the latest update to BBM, its popular instant messaging service, will soon see an upgrade to version 2.2. The first to experience the new features will be Android, which will start rolling out tonight, followed by “iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch in the coming days.”
The new additions in BBM v2.2 for Android and iOS includes an easier signup page, easier way to find friends, 16 new BBM emoticons, and BlackBerry decided to rename the ‘Updates’ tab to ‘Feeds’.
As for BlackBerry users, well you’ll have to wait as the company states there is something special for you. Jeff Gadway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, said, “we have a special release of BBM coming for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 smartphones in a couple of weeks… a few special things added for good measure.”
BlackBerry recently declared that there are over 85 million BBM users in the world on all platforms.
Update: BlackBerry has updated BBM for iOS, now at version 2.2.0.19. The full changelog is the same as above and brings the simple sign up and new sign in screen for existing BBM users, Updates tab has been re-named ‘Feeds’, 16 new emoticons, improved experience for adding new BBM contacts by email, and unknown “Bug fixes and performance improvements.”
