There are reports that a new iPad mini is arriving soon, but it could be pricier than before.
According to a report from Bloomberg, a new redesign of the iPad mini with an OLED screen is expected to arrive this October alongside a suite of new Apple products like the foldable iPhone and new Apple Watch and Mac models.
The upcoming entry-level iPad is said to have a spec bump, but no major redesign. Reports indicated we may see it hit shelves early next year. Further, reports said other iPad refreshes (alongside other Apple products) will be coming in 2027, with the new iPad Air potentially debuting in spring 2027, alongside new iPad Pro and Apple Pencil models. Bloomberg also noted that while there are plans to eventually bring OLED displays to the iPad Air, the base iPad is still expected to stick with LCDs.
The iPad mini has largely remained the same since its overhaul in 2021, aside from a 2024 refresh that brought the A17 to the device. Bringing in OLED screens to the new iPad mini might tempt some buyers to finally make the switch.
However, something that may deter tempted buyers is the price. Apple has been notably affected by the recent chip shortages and has had to raise prices on several of its models to offset the dent in profits. I doubt that Apple would leave the upcoming iPad mini out of the price hikes (that are also coming to the iPhone 18), especially since the AI-induced component crisis doesn’t seem to be going anywhere for the time being.
