TikTok is now letting advertisers use generative AI to create ads. This will undoubtedly make it easier for people to create commercials, but I worry about what this will do to the industry of videographers who make their living making this type of content.
The new tool is an updated version of TikTok Symphony, and it lets users upload an image of a product and then write a prompt of what they want the advertisement to look like. To take things a step further the company is also making a version that only needs a prompt and will make an ad with no product image involved.

The comapny is also using new AI-powered smart targeting systems to try and make sure that all ads on its platform make their way to the viewers they will impact the most.
Overall, these tools are just a drop in the bucket, but the world’s most popular short-form video platform opening the door to so many generative AI tools feels a bit scary. These tools can even generate AI avatars that can hold or wear products. This means fake models and actors will replace real people.

TikTok says these avatars can showcase an app on a phone, model clothes and hold products. The AI content will be labelled as such, but they look so real in the demos that I worry most people won’t grasp that it’s AI.
So far, these avatars can’t talk, but it seems like a matter of time before they’re replacing not only traditional ads but also creator-led ads that have become popular on the platform.
