Oblivion Remastered was Canada’s best-selling game in April 2025

Canadian-made Assassin's Creed Shadows also continued to perform well

Oblivion Remastered

Circana and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada have revealed the best-selling games in Canada in April 2025.

Read on for the full list. (Note that digital sales for Nintendo Switch games aren’t included, while Xbox sales also aren’t considered for MLB The Show.)

  1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
  2. Forza Horizon 5 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
  3. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
  4. Assassin’s Creed Shadows (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac)
  5. Minecraft (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, macOS, tvOS)
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
  7. Split Fiction (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
  8. MLB: The Show 25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch)
  9. The Last of Us Part II (PS4, PS5, PC)
  10. WWE 2K25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

First, it should be noted that a few of these games are Canadian. The acclaimed feudal Japan action-adventure title Assassin’s Creed Shadows hails from Ubisoft Quebec, while development on California-based Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was assisted by Quebec City’s Beenox.

For context, here’s the U.S. list for April, per Circana:

  1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
  2. Forza Horizon 5
  3. MLB The Show 25
  4. Minecraft
  5. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  6. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  8. WWE WK25
  9. NBA 2K25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS)
  10. PGA Tour 2K25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

Overall, the lists are quite similar, outside of a couple sports games. (Interestingly, PGA Tour 2K25 — the latest golf title from Lunenberg, Nova Scotia’s HB Studios — charted in the U.S. but not in Canada.)

What both lists do show, however, is the increasing importance of multiplatform releases. First, Xbox-owned The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched simultaneously on Xbox and PlayStation. On top of that, Forza Horizon 5 launched on Xbox and PC four years ago but still achieved a high placement here thanks to its PS5 port in April. Similarly, Indiana Jones debuted on Xbox and PC in December and also came to PS5 in April. Over the past year, Xbox has brought many games to other platforms, noting that full exclusives don’t make sense for its business plans amid a console market that isn’t growing anymore.

April also once again shows the impact of adapting video games into other media. Both A Minecraft Movie and HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 premiered in April, and their corresponding video game counterparts — which have both been out for a while now — saw a boost in sales accordingly.

It should also be noted that one of the most acclaimed games of the year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, didn’t make the charts. This is likely because the turn-based RPG launched on April 24, less than a week before the end of the month. Given the strong word of mouth and ever-growing sales figures (two million copies in under two weeks), it will likely pop up on May’s list.

On that note, May has been a relatively quieter month for releases. Some of the notable games include Doom: The Dark Ages, a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny and Elden Ring: Nightreign. It will be interesting to see what ends up making May’s top 10.
