Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States of America on Monday, January 20th.
The big inauguration ceremony will kick off at 11:30am ET/8:30am PT with opening remarks before the main event begins at 12pm. The event has been moved to indoors at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda amid freezing temperatures in Washington.
Naturally, there are a lot of eyes on the controversial incoming Trump administration, both within and outside of America. Canada, in particular, has much at stake here amid potential tariffs on Canadian goods and Trump’s repeated comments about annexing its neighbour.
Thankfully, those looking to follow along with Inauguration Day in Canada have a variety of options.
If you have cable, CBC and CTV have live ongoing coverage. The networks also offer online reporting through their respective CTVNews.ca, CP24.com, BNNBloomberg.ca and CTV News app and CBC.ca platforms.
But perhaps the easiest way is to simply stream through YouTube. The official White House channel will stream the inauguration starting at 11am ET/8am ET, but you can get live pre-event coverage from the likes of The Associated Press, C-Span, CTV News, CBC News and the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
What else to expect
Other than Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance being sworn in, American Idol alum Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at the inauguration. Other musical performances will come from The Village People, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and Rascal Flatts.
Who will be there
Of course, dignitaries from around the world will be in attendance, including those from China, Italy, Argentina and Hungary. From Canada, the likes of Alberta premier Danielle Smith, industry minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, trade minister Mary Ng and Ontario energy minister Stephen Lecce and trade minister Vic Fedeli are expected to attend.
A variety of business executives will also be in attendance, including tech giant leaders Elon Musk (Tesla), Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) and Tim Cook (Apple).

Ultimately, though, the answers to the most important questions — namely, what Trump will do once he’s actually back in the White House — are still to come. We’ll continue to cover the Trump administration in regards to any impact it might have on the Canadian tech sector, including, potentially, video games.
