Nintendo will finally reveal the Switch 2 this week: report

This long-awaited unveiling will reportedly focus on hardware before a separate games-focused showcase in the coming weeks

Nintendo is expected to finally unveil its successor to the Nintendo Switch this week, according to multiple reports.

On X (Twitter), The Verge‘s Tom Warren indicated that the reveal for the new console, colloquially referred to as the ‘Switch 2,’ “should” happen this week based on what he’s heard. Narrowing that down even further, the Nate the Hate podcast, which has a consistent industry insider track record, says the console will be revealed on January 16th. VGC, another credible source, corroborated Nate the Hate‘s report.

According to both Nate the Hate and VGC, this January 16th reveal will be focused purely on hardware, with a second showcase dedicated to software coming either in late February or early March. They also both indicate that they’ve heard of either a May or June launch for the system alongside a new Mario Kart, with a new 3D Mario to follow this holiday. People have long been speculating that this could happen, given that the last Mario Kart and 3D Mario games, 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey, both came in the Switch’s 2017 launch year.

All of this comes after a deluge of Switch 2 leaks over the past month that have seemingly revealed the system’s magnetic Joy-Cons, mouse-like optical sensor, mysterious ‘C’ button and much more. Accessory maker Genki was even at CES last week to brazenly show off a Switch 2 mockup it said was based on real hardware it had seen, although it quickly walked that all back after reportedly being visited by Nintendo’s legal team.

Hopefully, the Switch 2 does indeed get revealed this week.
