Microsoft’s recently announced ‘Carbon Black’ Xbox Series S with 1TB SSD storage is now available to pre-order in Canada ahead of its September 1st launch date.
The $449.99 Series S was revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase + Starfield Direct earlier this month as the brand’s “one last thing” moment. It features the same overall design and size as the original Series S, with a matte black colour similar to the Xbox Series X.

The biggest change is in the console’s internal storage. The Series S, which launched in 2020, only supports a 512GB SSD. However, the console only actually features 364GB of storage, with the remainder being used for OS updates.
The upgrade to a total of 1TB of SSD storage is a great move by Microsoft, especially since the Series S is an all-digital console. With no disc drive, players need to download and install the games they want to play (cloud support aside). With games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Red Dead Redemption II pushing over 150GB, the need for more storage is growing. That doesn’t even account for Bethesda’s upcoming Starfield, which is reportedly 125GB.
For those interested in picking up the Carbon Black Series S, you can pre-order the console from the Microsoft store. The official release date is September 1st, 2023, just days before Starfield‘s September 6th launch.
