YouTube’s latest version update, 12.44, brings the pinch-to-zoom gesture that lets users expand the video to fit an entire 18:9 aspect ratio display, to the LG V30, Samsung Galaxy S8, Note 8 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro.
While the Samsung Galaxy S8 already featured a full screen mode that fit the full 18:9 aspect ratio, it was previous enabled via an on-screen button and not this new gesture.
Most videos are made for the the standard 16:9 widescreen format, which causes black bars to sit on each side of the display.
With YouTube update 12.40, the platform was updated with a gesture allowing Pixel 2 XL users to watch videos with the smartphone’s full 18:9 aspect ratio display.
In other recent YouTube news, the streaming service brought profiles to its YouTube Kids application.
