Sony announces $700 PlayStation VR launch bundle, pre-orders open March 22

PlayStation VR

When Sony announced on Tuesday the PlayStation VR will cost $549 in Canada, most people thought it was a pretty reasonable price for an advance new piece of hardware. That is until they learned the base PlayStation VR kit doesn’t include two of the components needed to play virtual reality games on the PlayStation 4.

Sony today announced a new bundle aimed at everyone who doesn’t already own a PlayStation Camera and a pair of Move controllers — which, it turns out, is probably most PlayStation 4 owners.

Priced at $700, the bundle includes everything already found in the base bundle — the headset itself, all the necessary cables, a pair of stereo headphones and a disc with a couple of demos — and adds the PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers and a Blu-Ray disc with PlayStation VR Worlds.

PlayStation VR Worlds is a collection of five games created by Sony’s London Studio that demonstrate the capabilities of Sony’s virtual reality platform. More information on all five games can be found on the PlayStation Blog.

Canadians will be able to pre-order the bundle at several retailers across Canada on March 22 at 10:00 am. Sony says quantities will be limited, though the company also mentions it will start accepting another wave of pre-orders in the summer.
