Nutshell makes shareable videos using three photos and some curse words

Prezi has long been recognized as one of the companies disrupting the lucrative business presentation market. It web tools make it relatively easy to make impressive and dynamic presentations, all of which are synched to the cloud and mobile-friendly.

Today, the company’s newest app, available for iOS, takes one of the most sought-after micro features of Prezi and expands it to a single premise: Nutshell. Prezi found that people loved its transitions so much — the smooth vertical or horizontal swoops between pages, for example — that it decided to make a consumer-facing app from it. Enter Nutshell.

Nutshell, in an, um, nutshell, is a way to stitch together three photos, some text or graphics overlaid on top, and make them into a quick and easily-shareable video. While many other apps make it possible to do some of these things, none fill the entire proposition of Nutshell.

The company offers many text and graphics options, and the interface is as austere as an app gets these days. Users see a big photo shutter button, and once the photos are taken, it’s simple to navigate between the three photos to add elements. The app automatically adds the transition effects, a sped-up slow motion. It’s very cool.

Nutshell also allows users to share their videos on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, along with a link to the embed through Messages, email or WhatsApp.

Nutshell may be an experiment, but it also brings its parent company, Prezi, more into the consumer limelight, a move often necessary to grow largely enterprise-focused companies.

The app is free, and the company won’t say whether it is working on an Android version.
