Google is apparently hoping to boost app sales in the Play Store with a new program that allows users to try apps before they fork out the cash for the download.
The Information cites “a person involved in the discussions” in reporting that Google is considering offering users the chance to try apps for free. This process would involve making a small part of the app available for free download in order to save money and data. If the user wants to download the entire app, they can then pay to download it in full.
It’s an interesting idea, and the Information points out that it could be especially helpful for people in developing countries who don’t have as much money or data to throw away on apps that may or may not be useful.
No word yet on when this ‘try before you buy’ feature might become available. However, if you’re looking for a work around, you could always just purchase the application and then make use of Google’s two-hour “return” window if you’re not happy.
