Just in time for the unveiling of the newest iPhone, WhatsApp has released a pretty hefty update for its iOS application. Version 2.11.9 brings the ability to add captions to photos and videos, as well as the ability to share slow-motion videos on the iPhone 5S.
There’s also couple of tweaks to location sharing. These include support for satellite and hybrid map views as well as the ability to drag and drop a pint to share your exact location. In addition, users are being treated to some new wallpapers and notification tones, along with faster access to the camera when you want to capture a photo to send directly to a contact.
Lastly, there’s new media auto-download preferences and the ability to trim your videos before you hit send. Not bad for an update that was pushed out without much fanfare.
Late last month, WhatsApp confirmed that 600 million people are using the service every single month. That number is up from 500 million in April, and 450 million this past February.
