Google’s Sundar Pichai announced at Google I/O that the Android OS is alive and well, now topping at 1 billion active Android users. Previously Google communicated the total amount of users, but this number is based on the last 30-days, which makes it even more impressive. The breakdown of devices was not given, but there are probably more smartphone owners than tablet or wearable users.
Pichari also noted that Android’s tablet market share continues to grow, now owning 62% of the market. In addition, combined Android users check their device a total of 100 billion times per day (average user checks 125 times per day), took 93 million selfies per day, walk 1.5 trillion steps per day, and send 20 billion text messages per day.
