“The Next Galaxy” is what Samsung teased in their 37-second video yesterday. Leading up to February 24th Mobile World Congress keynote event are a couple leaked images, courtesy of reputable device leaker @evleaks, of the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo.
The overall design of this next-gen smartwatch seem to take shape with a similar design to the original Galaxy Gear, both sporting cameras but these have a slimmer bezel and what looks to be a homescreen button. The OS looks to be Android — rumours earlier this week pointed towards Samsung loading Tizen onto the Gear. It’s also expected that the Galaxy Gear 2 will be their flagship smartwatch, while the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo will be a more affordable version.
Samsung will be live streaming their MWC event on YouTube this coming Monday.
Update: @evleaks provided an even clearer photo of the two devices, but claimed that neither are “Galaxy” branded. While it’s not clear what that means for consumers — will they coexist alongside the original Galaxy Gear then? — we’ll find out on Monday. -DB
Update 2 – Yet another image of the “Samsung Gear 2, 2014” has leaked online by @evleaks. Looks like that home button is making its way to the smartwatch. Note that the Galaxy brand is missing and could be that the rumours of this powered by Tizen OS are true – IH
