Motorola Atrix HD becomes official, becomes second Android phone with on-screen buttons

Whether you believe Motorola Mobility, now owned by Google, is going to be shown preferential treatment over other OEMs, one thing is certain: the parent certainly has more influence over its child than someone else’s. Which is why I find it interesting that the Motorola Atrix HD, recently announced for AT&T, is the second device to come equipped with on-screen navigation buttons a la the Galaxy Nexus.

While not quite as slim as the RAZR, the 8.4mm thick Atrix HD comes equipped with the same features we loved from that diminutive device, but adds some great new features. The screen has been bumped to 1280 x 720 pixels, and is a true RGB display — no PenTile nonsense here — while the internals are a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable with microSD card), 8MP camera with flash, 1780mAh battery and more. It also has that strong Kevlar backing we know and love.

What’s interesting, too, is that the Atrix HD looks to be compatible with all Canadian carriers over HSPA+, including WIND and Mobilicity, as well as Rogers, Bell and TELUS LTE. It comes with a whack of Motorola-specific features (no stock Android here, sorry) including SmartActions and a number of business-focused inclusions.

We’re not sure whether this device will come to Canada — Bell carried the Atrix but not the Atrix 2 — but we’re holding out hope.
