The newly appointed Industry Minister Christian Paradis spoke for a brief 15 minutes at the 2011 Canadian Telecom Summit. He didn’t really say anything to shocking but did commit to advancing Canada’s digital economy strategy. “Our government considers a digital economy strategy to be one of its most important objectives. One of my first priorities is to sustain the momentum we have achieved to date”. In regards to the upcoming 700 and 2,500MHz spectrum auction, Paradis did confirm this will proceed and that he is pro-competition… but exactly is still unsure. He did state that he will continue to urge to get more competition and possibly lift foreign ownership rules. “Foreign ownership, meanwhile, remains an important piece of this puzzle, and one that I am personally committed to getting right.”
