CRTC has released their annual report called “Communications Monitoring Report”, it basically a in-depth review on the state of the communications industry in Canada.
The info is based on 2009 data and here’s some interesting stats:
– In 2009, the communications industry accounted for 4.6% of Canada’s gross domestic product with overall revenues rising 2.1% to $55.4 billion
– By the end of 2009 there were 23.8 million wireless subscribers
– The telecommunications industry reported a 1.8% increase in overall revenues to reach $41 billion for 2009.
-The percentage of Canadians that could access the Internet using a cellphone went from 91% to 96% in one year.
– The wireless network covers approximately 20% of Canada’s geographic area and 99% of Canadians
– The advanced wireless network that supports handsets, such as smartphones and turbo sticks is available to 96% of Canadians
– Wireless market sector revenues are the largest component (41%) of total telecommunications revenues
