Looking for a job? The recession got you down? Virgin Mobile and its “Screw You Recession!” campaign are looking to hire a “financially-savvy summer job seeker to show the recession who’s boss”.
You can become part of the Virgin staff for the summer, sit behind a desk and according to Virgin “spend their days searching for stories, digging for deals, interviewing financial experts… and just generally telling the recession where to stick it.” As compensation you’ll get “three month’s salary at $2,000 a month, a snazzy new personal laptop, a new Virgin Mobile BlackBerry 3G smartphone, a Flip video camera, and the chance to interview one of the world’s most innovative billionaires, Sir Richard Branson!”
However, getting the gig might be more challenging than you think. To apply you have to post a video online and let people know why you have what it takes to get the job done…easy, but the challenging part is that becoming one of the 5 finalist voted in by people visiting the site. If you are one of the lucky 5 you’ll then proceed to the actual interview process. Also, Virgin says that the ability to speak and write in both English and French will be a definite asset.
Applications can be uploaded today until Friday May 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. EDT with the winning intern announced on June 1, 2009. Here is a video of what they are looking for:
Virgin Mobile’s CMO Nathan Rosenberg said “Job hunting this summer is going to be more difficult than it has been in a long time. This is a one-of-a-kind chance and, except for my job, is probably the coolest gig you can get your hands on. The winner will be the voice, eyes, and ears of young Canadians and will put their issues and concerns centre stage during these tough times. They’ll represent us at government news conferences and seek out the best money saving deals. The job isn’t going to be easy, but we can guarantee it will be an amazing three months that could lead to big time opportunities. The icing on the cake is that they’ll get to work for one of the world’s coolest brands.”
Honestly a chance to interview Sir Richard Branson is well worth the time to submit your video. The man is a genius.
