iPhone Duo, 18 Pro, and more — how do you feel about the Apple event?

Apple unveiled several new devices at its Sept. 9 event, including the highly anticipated folding iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Duo. And we want to know how you feel about all the new devices!

I’ve got a number of thoughts about the iPhone Duo, especially as someone who hasn’t really liked foldables all that much. I dig the size and shape of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, though, and the iPhone Fold is similar, so it should be nice in that regard.

I find Apple’s decision to move UI elements like the dock to the right edge of the screen particularly interesting. On one hand, it makes those things easier to access, especially on a wider display like the iPhone Duo has. On the other, I think it makes the phone look off balance and asymmetrical — somewhat antithetical to Apple’s whole design ethos.

Further, I expected Apple to pitch a more compelling use for the Duo. My main issue with most foldables is that they’re just phones that can have a larger screen when needed. So far, the iPhone Duo’s pitch seems about the same — just an iPhone that can also be an iPad sometimes. Sure, it’s cool, but is it worth $3,000? I don’t think so.

Then there’s the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The 17 Pro series was excellent, and Apple is only making a few small but notable improvements this time around. However, I think they’ll add up to impressive gains in the long run. New features like the variable aperture in the primary camera will be great for photographers, while the improved heat management will benefit everyone.

Finally, there are the Apple Watches and AirPods, both of which seem to be fairly minor upgrades. On the Apple Watch side, there are some improvements to the health sensors for better heart rate tracking, and some new material options like ceramic, but the biggest upgrades are related to software. Meanwhile, the AirPods get better noise cancellation, Live Translation, and a few other upgrades.
