We’re excited for Samsung Unpacked 2026: Fold 8, possible Galaxy Glasses

Three new phones, two smartwatches, a ring and a pair of glasses 🤓

Samsung Unpacked is on July 22 in London, England, and I’ll be on the ground reporting and demoing everything at the event. While I’m excited to go to London, England (I’ve never been), I’m also really looking forward to seeing what Samsung has to offer at this event. I’ve been attentively following along with the many rumours, and if they’re right, we’re in for a show with a new product design that should hopefully reach the Canadian border.

This year, we’re in for three foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra; and two smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Additionally, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Ring 2, and potentially an Android XR smartglasses. This is a lot of tech at one event, so of course, someone like me can’t wait until July 22.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

The most exciting of the smartphones is the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which isn’t the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 like we would expect, but instead, a completely new design. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, on the other hand, is the true successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Back to the Fold 8; this year, we’re getting a square-shaped design and will be poised to be more affordable than the Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Spec-wise, the Z Fold 8 will sport a 7.6-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. The cover screen will have a 5.5-inch display with QHD+ resolution and a much wider than usual 16:10 aspect ratio.

Camera-wise, it’s offering a 50MP primary with a f/1.8 aperture, a 50MP ultrawide with an f/1.9 aperture and a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera on both displays. While it won’t have the best cameras, it’ll have the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The handset will also feature a 4,800mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Previous leak also indicates that the phone will offer 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7mm dimensions when folded, and 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5mm when unfolded, making it noticeably thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (but not too thick, it’ll still be thinner than the Razr Fold). It’ll also weigh 201g, making it lighter than the Z Fold 7, Razr Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, garnering the title ‘lightest foldable’ (although the iPhone Ultra might come in and change that in September).

Reportedly, Samsung made the display for Apple’s iPhone Ultra, so it’s hilarious that Samsung is doing the same thing, beating it to the punch.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra / Z Flip 8

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 are the successors to last year’s Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, and typically, the only two smartphones that Samsung launches during its summer Unpacked.

The Z Fold 8 Ultra is poised to be more expensive this year, with the new ‘Ultra’ branding. The Z Fold 8 Ultra sports an 8-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2600 nits of brightness. Additionally, it has a 6.5-inch Cover display with a 2520 x 1080-pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite 5 for Galaxy, up to 16GB of RAM, a 5,000mAh battery and a triple camera setup. The Z Fold 8 Ultra will reportedly feature a 200MP primary camera, 50MP ultra-wide shooter, and two 10MP selfie cameras.

The Z Flip 8, on the other hand, sports a 6.9-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED 2X main panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The cover display sports a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the Z Flip 8 is rumoured to come with either the Exynos 2600 chip or the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, depending on the region (likely 8 Elite Gen 5 in Canada).

It also reportedly features a 4,300mAh battery with 25W wired charging and the same 50MP main shooter from the Z Flip 7, and a 12MP ultrawide camera.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, Watch Ultra 2.

The Galaxy Watch 9 is reportedly coming in both 40mm and 44mm versions, and comes in three colours — Cream, Green and Graphite. The design is pretty much the same as the Galaxy Watch 8, with a circular screen and an oval-shaped body.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 comes in 47mm and comes in Gray and Silver colours. The design is similar to last year’s, with a round display, three buttons on the right side and a rotating crown.

Galaxy Ring 2 & Android XR smartglasses

We know Samsung is working on the Galaxy Ring 2, as Dr. Hon Pak, the company’s head of Digital Health, said that it would offer a better battery life, upgraded health tracking and might even work with iPhones. Some rumours point to its launch on July 22, and others suggest an early 2027 release; only time will tell.

Android XR smartglasses, on the other hand, we’re not sure a lot about this or if we’ll see this at the event. Samsung and Google are working with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on new audio smartglasses. A leak from SammyGuru indicates that Samsung is working on ‘Galaxy Glasses.’ The leaked renders indicate that the Galaxy Glasses feature a touchpad sensor on the right arm near the temple. There’s also a shutter button on the right arm with the camera on the front of the arm. Reportedly, a single press takes a picture and holding it down records a video. Reportedly, it will offer integration with Samsung devices, where if you take a picture or video, it’ll appear in the Now bar on your Galaxy phone.

Of course, we don’t know for sure what we’ll see on July 22, but colour me excited. I love new tech, and the design of the Galaxy Fold 8 and the possible Galaxy Glasses are definitely meeting my wants.

And there will definitely be a lot of new AI features, as Samsung even mentions it in the Unpacked Invitation:

“Join us as we unveil the newest additions to the Galaxy portfolio, which has defined the foldable category. Combining intelligent capabilities with innovative form factors, the next generation of Galaxy devices are set to deliver more personal and adaptive experiences and set a new standard for the AI era.”

Unpacked 2026 is taking place in London U.K., and will be streamed live on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom and Samsung’s YouTube channel beginning at 2 p.m. BST, 9 am EDT and 12pm PDT.
