At Unpacked 2026, Samsung announced the Z Flip 8, the company’s newest clamshell handset. According to rumours, this is the last smartphone in the well-regarded Z Flip series. True or not, the device is as solid as ever.
I spent a bit of time with this smartphone, and it’s pretty similar to its predecessor, but the Cover Screen is a bit larger as the company reduced the bezels. Samsung has also made it so you can do more on the Cover Screen, allowing more apps on this smaller display. The Z Flip 8 is also the lightest folding phone, weighing 180g, and feels great to hold still.
Now, the device also uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite, which should offer a notable power bump in power. There’s also a 50MP primary shooter, a 4,300mAh battery and 12GB of RAM.
There’s also a pretty cool feature called Fan Cam, which allows someone to focus on one person in a video. For instance, you could be at a concert, and the video will focus on the main act instead of everyone in a vertical video. However, I think it’s especially enticing on the Z Flip 8 because of its camcorder mode, which lets you hold the handset as if it were a camcorder.
