An Ontario Costco has gone viral after violence broke out in its parking lot over new Pokémon cards.
As shared by Pokémon-focused Instagram page Pokéstreetz, dozens of people were lined up on Friday at the Costco on Laird Drive in Mississauga for the TCG’s new Prismatic Evolutions drop. After seeing one buyer with a cart full of stacks of boxes, someone allegedly threw coffee on the hoard. A car then hit the cart and ran over several boxes while several other people rushed up to pilfer the loot. The aftermath of the scene was caught on video, which includes cops arriving. It’s unclear if anyone has been arrested.
Unfortunately, it’s all too common for violence to ensue over Pokémon cards in recent years. In addition to many worldwide incidents, we even saw similar chaos last month in Vancouver and Mississauga. (Contrary to what some outlets like IGN have been reporting, this was actually at a different Costco in Mississauga on Rodeo Drive, not the same Laird location.) We’ve also seen stories of armed robberies over Pokémon cards in places like Manhattan.
In other words, be careful if you’re trying to pick up some packs or boxes.
