PlayStation adds Cloud Streaming to PS Portal

Cloud Streaming includes games like Ghost of Yotei and GTA V

PlayStation has announced that the PS Portal is receiving a huge update, allowing users to stream games on the cloud. Officially called ‘Cloud Streaming for PS5 Games,’ the new feature will be available for PS Plus Premium members and launches November 5 at 9pm ET.

Cloud Streaming for PS5 games includes games like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4.

The PS Portal is also getting a new home screen design with three tabs, ‘Remote Play,’ ‘Cloud Streaming,’ and ‘Search.’ Of course, the Remote Play tab lets you connect your PS Portal with your PS5 and play games installed on your console. Previously, this was the only way to play games on your PS Portal.

The new ‘Search’ screen lets you quickly search for games that support Cloud Streaming.

The update also includes 3D audio support during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming on supported games, which means you can use your Pulse Elite headset with your controller. You can also passcode lock your PS Portal, and easily check your network status screen. In-game purchases are now supported during Cloud Streaming, and you can purchase add-on items and in-game currencies as well.

The update will let users receive game invitations from friends who are playing the same game during Cloud Streaming, and join a multiplayer session from the Quick menu.

While welcome updates, I still wish that the PS Portal allowed you to download games on-device, so I can play games when I’m on a flight.
