The iPhone 17 series is only a month away (judging by previous iPhone launches), and we’ve already seen leaked renders of all four devices. However, the latest leak reveals more about the storage on Apple’s upcoming devices.
According to a Weibo post from Chinese leaker Instant Digital, the iPhone 17 Pro will start with 256GB and be priced at US$1,049 (about CA$1,443), rather than starting at 128GB for US$999 (roughly CA$1,375) like the 16 Pro. Currently, Apple Canada charges C$1,449 for the 128GB iPhone 16 Pro model and C$1,599 for the 256GB, while in the U.S., the 256GB model costs US$1,099.
The price hike would definitely be looked at negatively, so it makes sense that Apple is doubling the storage. Other companies like Samsung have done a similar strategy in the past.
Moreover, the rumour comes after analysts said they expected Apple to raise iPhone prices this year due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Analysts predicted a US$50 to $100 increase, which is right in line with what the leaks are suggesting. Plus, MobileSyrup’s resident Apple expert, Brad Bennett, also predicted that Apple would drop the 128GB storage option to soften the sting of a price increase.
The base model iPhone 17 is rumoured to launch with 12GB of RAM. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro is rumoured to ditch the previous anti-reflective or nano coating. Finally, Apple will reportedly add a new orange colour option for the Pro iPhone lineup.
