Rogers is finally adding CBC Gem, ICI.TOU.TV, Paramount+, and DAZN to its Xfinity TV platform, playing catch-up with the rest of the industry.
DAZN is for streaming sports of all kinds. CBC Gem and ICI.TOU. TV are channels for CBC’s English and French programming. Finally, Paramount+ is where you can watch all the shows and movies from Paramount. This includes kids’ shows like SpongeBob and movies and TV shows for adults. I use it to watch Survivor and Top Gun: Maverick over and over again.
If you use Rogers for traditional TV services, and you have an account with one of these services, you can now log in right from your Xfinity box and watch without having to switch to your smart TV home screen or another input.
Really, the only standout part of the press release to me is that Rogers describes its remote as “award-winning.” I thought this was a funny way to describe a remote that comes with a TV box this way, but after a bit of digging, I discovered that Comcast won a Technology and Engineering Emmy in 2018 for the design of the remote, since it included voice controls.
That said, from looking at the remote, I’m not sure if the two telecom companies should still be relying on that award to sell their services. That being said, there isn’t really a good remote from any of the carriers, so it’s more of a “pick your poison” type of scenario.
