Ericsson supplies various 5G tech to Bell and Rogers

It’s a big week for the Swedish network infrastructure company Ericsson. It’s partnered with Bell to launch its new Ottawa-developed indoor 5G solution and Rogers to deploy a new ‘5G Advanced’ to work better with smart devices like cameras, sensors, and other monitoring equipment.

Fusion 8828

Developed in Ericsson’s Ottawa labs a new indoor 5G device can be used indoors to help businesses in large buildings that might block cell signal from outdoors.

“The Indoor Fusion 8828 is a compact, plug-and-play 5G solution aimed at businesses in small and medium-sized buildings, like coffee shops, chain stores, movie theatres, restaurants, and more. It supports up to four Radio Dots, delivering multi-Gbps speeds, and delivers reliable 5G connectivity for smaller locations, helping businesses improve their overall operations,” reads the description from the company’s press release.

Bell is the first carrier to adopt this tech, but it’s an option that any carrier or business will be able to source from Ericsson. It should be similar to this ‘Indoor Fusion Unit‘ that’s already available.

5G Advanced

The Rogers’ press release states that 5G Advanced will use RedCap (reduced capability) software so the next generation of IoT devices will use the network more efficiently. The release also states that this should enhance battery life on 5G-connected smartwatches.
