Tesla overwhelmed with faulty self-driving computer problems

A new report claims that Tesla has received numerous service requests for repairs on the self-driving computer systems in its brand-new Teslas.

Apparently, the problem is with the new version of the Tesla HW4 self-driving computer short-circuiting. A report from Electrek mentions that the cause is still being investigated internally, but it may be related to the low-voltage battery the company is using. Then, when the cameras in the system try to calibrate, it short-circuits the whole computer.

The publication claims that it’s had reports from all kinds of drivers about new cars built over the last few months, and the issue can happen anywhere between the first few miles and a few hundred miles.

Tesla is receiving a high number of calls related to the issue but has yet to release an official statement or service bulletin. One of the sources told Electrek that they were told to downplay the issues to keep customers calm. That said, this issue is affecting drivers’ rear cameras, which goes against U.S. and Canadian car sales laws since new vehicles need to be sold with working backup cams.

The report says at this point, people who need service for this issue are having to book appointments in the new year because of how many calls Tesla has received.
