Apple’s next iPhone SE might have an OLED display

The phone is reportedly set to enter mass production in October ahead of a planned early 2025 launch

Apple is reportedly planning to add an OLED screen to the next iPhone SE.

According to Nikkei Asia, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has started ordering OLED displays from China’s BOE and South Korea’s LG Display for the fourth-gen SE. Notably, this would mark a departure from LCD screens, which the lower-cost iPhone model has had for years. Meanwhile, the main iPhone line has had OLED displays since the iPhone X in 2017.

Outside of the OLED display, the fourth-gen SE is rumoured to feature an iPhone 14-esque design, a 6.06-inch screen (up from 4.7 inches), a proprietary 5G modem, an A18 processor, an Action button and Face ID in pace of Touch ID and 8GM of RAM.

The third-gen iPhone SE launched in 2022, so that product line has been dormant for a little while now. However, the fourth-gen SE isn’t expected to debut this month alongside the iPhone 16 series. Instead, Nikkei says mass production is expected to begin in October ahead of an early 2025 launch, which would line up with the March release window of the third-gen SE.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more coverage on Apple’s big iPhone 16 event, which takes place on September 9th.
