Marvel Battle Lines announced for Android and iOS

Marvel Fresh Start

Marvel Entertainment has announced Marvel Battle Lines, a strategic free-to-play card game coming to Android and iOS in 2018.

In Battle Lines, players will be able to collect and build a deck of cards featuring hundreds of Marvel superheroes and supervillains, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Black Panther.

With these cards, players will be able to experience a single-player campaign featuring an original story mode penned by Alex Irvine, a fantasy and science-fiction writer behind a number of Iron Man and Daredevil comics.

Marvel says a player-versus-player mode will also be available.

Battle Lines is being developed by the Seoul, South Korea-based Nexon, PC and mobile game company best known for such titles as Maplestory, Vindictus and Dragon Nest.

It’s currently unclear how Battle Lines‘ moment-to-moment card gameplay will play out, exactly, but Marvel says it will reveal more on the game in the coming months.

“Marvel’s incredible universe has reached hundreds of millions of fans around the world and it’s an honor to be collaborating with their team on a truly unique game that draws on the nostalgia of collecting trading cards and taps into the fun of battling with friends,” said Lawrence Koh, general manager at Nexon, in a press release.

Marvel Battle Lines is incredibly engaging, fast and accessible, and will give players a chance to hone their skills and collect their favorite superheroes and supervillains based on how they like to play games — whether that’s through the original single-player storyline and activities or competing in the PvP mode.”

“We are working very closely with Nexon to deliver a card battle game that is authentic to our characters and true to the platform,” added Jay Ong, Marvel Entertainment senior vice president of games. “Marvel Battle Lines features an original story and all-new gameplay that Marvel fans and mobile players alike will enjoy for hours on end.”
