Since the second Android P developer preview landed yesterday, the MobileSyrup team has been working through all the various changes that Google introduced to its mobile operating system.
Developer Preview 2 includes a number of battery-related changes and enhancements to the operating system. One of them is a change to how the operating system notifies users of their smartphone’s remaining battery life.
Previously with DP1, Android P would display an estimate in minutes of remaining battery life. By contrast, with DP2, Google has rephrased the notification the operating system delivers to users to make it more general.
Instead of offering up an estimate in minutes, it will give users an approximate time as to when the smartphone will run out of battery power. So, for instance, it might say your smartphone battery will die by approximately 12pm.
On the surface, this may seem like Google making a change for the sake of making a change. However, as the company has said multiple times in the past, it uses developer previews as a way to collect feedback on potential changes. Therefore, there’s a good chance we could see the company before it releases Android P to consumers later this year.
