Wireless carrier rate plans in Canada.
It’s a love-hate relationship. Carriers know Canadians need to connect and communicate with family, friends and colleagues, and, as a result, the essential service comes at a premium price. Or, consumers can opt for a reduced monthly cost and receive limited or low-quality service.
Reports for the past decade revealed that Canadians pay some of the highest monthly rates for wireless service. A recent report commissioned by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and prepared by Nordicity Group revealed that Canadians pay some of the highest rates in the world.
For example, a plan with unlimited calling, texts, and 5GB data costs an average of $96.55 in Canada, while the prices are significantly cheaper by 37 percent to 58 percent in regions such as France, Italy and Australia. The only country to have higher pricing, according to this report was the United States.
There are over 32 million wireless subscribers in Canada and we all pay for some sort of monthly rate. Canadian carriers are finding new ways to offer customer perks for new subscribers, such as free Netflix for six months, discounts on clothing and magazines subscriptions.
