BioWare Edmonton reveals gameplay footage of ‘Anthem’ at Xbox E3 keynote

During Microsoft’s E3 2017 keynote in Los Angeles, California, the company spent a significant amount of time showing off BioWare’s Edmonton’s new IP, Anthem.

The Canadian-developed game is set to be a third-person shooter that places an emphasis on squad-based interaction and exosuits that allow players to bound and fly through the air in a variety of ways, both vertically and horizontally.

In Anthem players take on the roll of a freelancer who lives within the walls of a city that is protecting humanity. Players wear exosuits called Javelins that are highly customizable and come in three distinct types, according to the brief presenation. For example, the Ranger Javelin is balanced, while the Colossus turns the player into a tank.

Beyond this, little is known about the game, but it appears to feature an open world, with BioWare calling the game a “shared-world action-RPG,” that will place an emphasis on cooperative gameplay. This means that Anthem could play similarly to Bungie’s Destiny franchise, allowing players to game together as a team or go solo in a persistent online world.

EA, BioWare’s parent company, says that Anthem is set to launch in Fall 2018 for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4.
