Apple and SAP announced recently that the two firms will release a software development kit for iPhone and iPad on March 30th.

The companies committed to build these tools last May, though they announced the release this past week at Mobile World Congress 2017. These tools will allow the 2.5 million developers that customize SAP’s financial and logistics programs to, according to Bloomberg, tap into building blocks of Apple’s iOS operating system.”

Bloomberg goes on to say that features of the resulting apps could include allowing employees to login to their companies’ SAP platforms through their iPhones, or tracking inventory based on the user’s location.

Developers will have the ability to integrate apps built with the kit with SAP’s Cloud Platform, S/4 Hana business applications and Hana database. An example of a company that’s been using the platform to write native iOS software that speaks to SAP capabilities.

With this release, SAP is likely aiming to achieve a larger foothold in the mobile market as it competes with counterparts like Oracle, Salesforce.
