Igor Bonifacic, now firmly ensconced in the Captain’s chair, moderated this week’s show featuring: Jessica Vomiero, Patrick O’Rourke and “’da boss” Ian Hardy

Up first the recently approved Bell/MTS merger. Adding Ian was a good call. His experience, a proxy for being the old guy, and knowledge base made for a fine fire-starter. The four podcasters navigated the topic in a calm yet expressive manner. Lacking was the silliness that, while well intentioned, often picks away at the content – trading away intelligent discussion for vacuous banter. This is the kind of topic that can be bone dry and unexciting; the foursome did well to keep listeners informed.

The second segment dealt with the CRTC’s recent Wireless Code review. My first feeling, as the segment began, was empathy for Jessica who disclosed the workload required to separate the wheat from the chaff. Little did I know that empathy would be the second segment’s theme.

The foursome had many fine thoughts that should find a platform for support and end up on the CRTC’s radar. This had me wondering if MobileSyrup could or should use its platform as a policy influencer. It’s standing as an on-line publication and consumer echo chamber presents them with an opportunity to be something bigger, more substantial. Perhaps this is something Ian already has in mind and time will tell.

This week’s show gets a 8.1 SMSPR (Subjective MobileSyrup Podcast Review) score. Is the amount of Rose inversely proportional to the lack of gimmicky goofiness?
