Samsung Canada launches return process for Galaxy Note 7

After the batteries in replacement Galaxy Note 7s proceeded to combust just like the versions before them, Samsung stopped production on the device altogether and announced that a return process was coming soon. Less than a day later, that process is now up and running.

Beginning on October 13th, Samsung Note 7 owners can bring their device in for an exchange to a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge at their point-of-purchase. Alternatively, they can also get a full refund of their Note 7 and accessories specific to the device.

Customers who purchased the device online are entitled to the same full refund upon receipt of the old Note 7 handset. Those customers will receive a message from the company shortly, says Samsung Canada, with details regarding the return process.

“The team has been consistent in our resolve in putting consumers first and worked as quickly as possible to execute the plan,” said Paul Brannen, COO and executive vice president of mobile and enterprise solutions in a press release sent to MobileSyrup.

“We are committed to working closely with our carrier and retail partners to make this as easy as possible for consumers. We appreciate the support we’ve received over the past few weeks.”

Many Canadian carriers have also released statements on the return process. MobileSyrup has aggregated the statements here.

Update – October 12th: Canadian Note 7 owners have received an email from Samsung Canada’s Paul Brannen stating the following:

“Beginning Thursday, October 13th, Samsung Note7 owners can bring their device to the original Samsung or authorized reseller point of purchase, to:

– Exchange towards a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge device.
– Receive a refund for the Note7 device and Note7 specific accessories.

As a recalled product, it is mandatory that all Note7 devices must be returned. As such, please power down and bring all Note7 devices including the replacement device and original device if you have not already returned via the pre-paid packaging sent to you.

For customers who purchased their Note7 on Samsung.com, a device refund will be offered upon return receipt of the recalled devices. Samsung Canada will send a separate email to our online customers from Thursday, October 13th to provide them with details regarding the return process.”
