Telus Health to acquire Nightingale’s Canadian EMR assets

Telus announced it will soon acquire the Canadian operations of the digital healthcare company, Nightingale Informatix Corp.

With this acquisition, Telus will also obtain the company’s electronic medical records (EMR) software, which is currently used by over 4,000 physicians in Canada, mainly in the Ontario and Atlantic regions. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

An EMR is a digital health record that can be accessed online, allowing users to present up-to-date medical information wherever they choose to see a doctor.

“At Telus Health, we are on a mission to leverage the power of technology and our world-class telecommunications infrastructure to improve health outcomes for Canadians. We are working to realize our goal not only by continuing to invest in health technology that supports the primary care ecosystem but also through strategic acquisitions,” said Paul Lepage, the president of Telus Health in a statement.

Nightingale was founded in 2002 and currently has offices in Canada and the United States and Telus is currently the largest health IT provider in Canada.

According to the statement received by MobileSyrup, the closing conditions surrounding this acquisition have yet to be finalized. For the deal to go through, both Nightingale shareholders and regulators will need to provide approval.

The overarching purpose of this acquisition is to increase Telus’ current EMR customer base in Ontario and Atlantic Canada. This news comes shortly after the company released the findings of a study it conducted in Canadians and their us of digital health alternatives in their lives.
