While early virtual reality is largely focused on video games right now, the technology has the potential to be useful in a variety of other industries, possibly even for home renovations.
In order to help visualize potential renovations, Ikea has released a new VR system that helps users plan their new kitchen. While users aren’t able to upload their kitchen’s design, they can select from three different highly customizable Ikea kitchen set-ups.
The design can not only be tweaked in terms of colour and decor, but the perspective of the 3D image can also be skewed, allowing users to view what the kitchen looks like to a child.
Ikea says that this is a “test app” and that it is testing the the market when it comes to the software. The app is also extremely basic right now, though its easy to see that VR being used in this way holds a significant amount of potential.
