Google has implemented a Play Store backend feature that is sure to make a lot of Android users happy.
Starting today, developers can take advantage of something called “timed publishing” to choose the exact time an app update is pushed to users. This is as opposed to the “standard publishing” process, which pushes an update as “soon as possible,” though usually results in most users patiently waiting for the update to appear on the Play Store.
There are several restrictions to this new system: the most important one being that this feature only applies to app updates, not entirely new apps.
It’s also important to note that developers need to actually take advantage of this feature for users to benefit from it. It’s certainly possible that some will decide not to schedule their apps. In which case, gradual rollouts will still occur.
