Motorola is bringing the Moto X Play to Canada on Friday August 21st, with support from Bell, Telus, Koodo and Sasktel.
Priced around $400, with specific numbers coming shortly from each carrier, the device is squarely aimed at the vulnerable mid-range market, with near-premium specs at a very accessible price. Whereas last year’s Moto X, of which there was only one model, came in at $100 on a 2-year contract and $600 outright, it’s expected that carriers will offer the Moto X Play for $0 to $50 on contract and $400 outright.
For that price, you get a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD display with Moto Display, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, a 3,630mAh battery, and a 21MP rear camera with an F2.0 lens. But for the mid-range processor, this could be Motorola’s 2015 flagship.
While the company won’t comment on whether it is bringing the larger, more powerful Moto X Style to Canada in the near future, the Play will certainly do the job for a number of people. Motorola will also be bringing the device to Wind Mobile and Videotron next week, optimized for their AWS networks.
